Background

Vaughan Hewett was born in Gillingham in 1956 and graduated from Imperial College London with an MSc in Petroleum Geology and Geophysics. He has spent his professional career working in the oil and gas industry, which has brought extensive travel. 

During this time he has written and presented technical papers given at international geophysical conferences around the world. He is the author of the published book Birdcage Walk, a fictional story relating ecology and society.

He is environmentally aware and a lover of the countryside and enjoys such outdoor pursuits as rock climbing, mountaineering, gardening and is involved with conservation work. He is also a season ticket holder at Gillingham Football Club.

Vaughan has recently been elected as a member of The Alpine Club on his own merits, is a member of the British Mountaineering Council, secretary to the Croydon Mountaineering Club, and a Royal Horticulture Society member.

From his mountaineering experience he is very much a team player whose qualities are renown for helping and caring for people when in need. He nursed his late mother for the last 5 years of her life and currently gives support to the spinal injured patients at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

He is now training to be a helper for the Disability Ski Sport trust.
